Roger W Matz, 84, passed away September 28, 2021. He was born in Akron, Ohio and graduated from Buchtel High School, class of 1955.
He was preceded in death by parents, Paul and Helen, stepmother, Mildred and son, Scott.

Roger retired in 1995 after serving 32 years on the Akron Police Force. Not being one to sit around, he went to work for his friend, Jim Hall at Hallco Inc. His next adventure was at West Point Market where he did delivery for the catering department. He enjoyed delivering for West Point where people were happy to see him arrive; unlike his first job, when he was an occasional driver of the police paddy wagon, where no one was happy to see him.
For the next adventure, Roger and JoAnne bought a sailboat and joined the Vermilion Yacht Club. They spent the next ten years sailing Lake Erie and enjoying the many friendships they made.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 4 at 11 a.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1686 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd., Copley, Ohio. Rev. Father Christopher Weber presiding.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lk. Rd. (Rt. 619) Portage Lakes.
