Karen Deitrick Starry

On March 30, 1946 a light was lit in the Deitrick Family and her name was Karen Marie “Cookie”.   She was the second child and the first daughter to Bob and Wilma. Older brother Bob and Uncle Tony Gliba were excited for her arrival.  Then came Dick “Deek”, Susan, Sharon and Jeanie. Their children, Derika, Dusty (Karen), Damin (Andrea), Darla Deitrick, Gabe Simon and Jessica (AJ).  And then their children, PJ Sullivan, Lauren, Kylie, Delaney, Kandice, Amber Deitrick, Noah & Elijah Simon and Ava Hanlin. And her special friends, especially Diana Mencer.  Her successful government career began with the Navy, Pentagon, White House and ended with the Department of Energy.

She later married General Donn A Starry and they moved to Canton, OH.  Karen was an extravagant host, known for extraordinary generosity and festive surroundings. She was an Advisor to the HALO Foundation of Akron, OH serving on The General Donn A Starry Leadership Legacy offering scholarships to area students and the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration Board.

On October 30, 2022, surrounded by family and friends, her light was joyfully received into eternity.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on November 11, 2022 at Sancta Clara Monastery 4200 Market N Canton, Ohio followed by a Celebration of her Life Reception.
