Charles Wagner, Sr. Obituary

Charles (Chuck) E Wagner Sr, 79, passed away after a brief illness on November 29, 2023.  He was born in Akron, OH, in 1943.  He was an avid fan of high school, college and professional football, and he was a loyal follower of the Cleveland Guardians.  He enjoyed keeping up with current events, playing word games and bringing humor and kindness to all of his situations and relationships.

Chuck graduated from Manchester High School in 1961 where he was, and remained to this day, Class Secretary, and was named All Suburban Center in football.  He successfully completed Goodyear’s rigorous Electrician Apprentice program as well as its Engineering Training program, and he obtained a Bachelor of Science Electronic Engineering Technology degree from the University of Akron.  Besides working at Goodyear, Mohawk and Seiberling rubber companies, he was Locomotive Crew Chief for the American Freedom Train, a traveling exhibition in honor of our nation’s bicentennial birthday, which toured the United States in 1975 and 1976.  Chuck transitioned to, and finished his career, in the hospital maintenance area, primarily as Maintenance Manager at Akron City (now Summa) Hospital.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy and Maxine Wagner, and sister-in-law, Nancy Wagner.  He survived by his children Charles Wagner (Carol), Jerry Wagner, Pam Buehrle (Ken) and Daryl Wagner; grandchildren Michael Wagner (Abbey), Curtis Wagner (Corrie), Rachel Mellinger (Dylan), Kevin Buehrle (Jennifer), Samantha Buehrle (Matt) and Rebekka Wagner; great-grandchildren Luke, Miles and Evelyn; brothers Bob Wagner and Bill Wagner (Kathi); and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, December 11, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at House of Eberhardt Funeral Home, 472 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (Route 619) in Portage Lakes.  The Celebration of Life service will immediately follow at 5:30 p.m., and the final resting place will be Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron. 

Dad, Grandpa, we are so saddened by your departure but we know you are only gone from our sight for a while, and we will see you again.
